Obafemi Hamzat, deputy governor of Lagos, has held talks with Babatunde Fashola, former minister of power, as the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s forthcoming governorship primaries draw closer.
In a post on X, the deputy governor said he met with Fashola on Thursday.
“Today, I met with former Governor and Minister, Mr Babatunde Raji Fashola and Hon. Olajumoke Okoya-Thomas, former Lagos State APC Women Leader,” he wrote.
“These engagements continue to shape the work ahead as we stay focused on delivering for the people.”
There have been speculations in some quarters that Hamzat has been quietly endorsed by party leaders as the consensus governorship candidate for the 2027 elections.
On Wednesday, Hamzat met with two former deputy governors of the state Femi Pedro and Princess Sarah Adebisi Sosan.
“I had enriching discussions with them, drawing from their experience and deep understanding of the state as I continue my engagements,” he wrote.
Hamzat also engaged some members of the Lagos state governance advisory council (GAC) after earlier consulting with Tajudeen Olusi, chairman of the council, on Monday.
“Today, I began consultations with respected members of the Governance Advisory Council,” he wrote.
“We had honest, thoughtful conversations about the future of Lagos and the kind of leadership it requires.
“I value the experience and guidance shared. This is about listening, learning and working with others to build a stronger Lagos.”
However, Abdul-Azeez Adediran, also known as Jandor, another APC governorship aspirant for the 2027 elections, dismissed the speculation about the endorsement of a consensus candidate, saying no such decision had been taken by the party leadership.
